Charm of the Wise Ones

~Poppy Palin~

Black crow, turn back, hollow root,
Bare branch shiver to my reedy flute.
I ask for the wisdom of the long-dead mute,
I am calling to the Wise!

Wings beat time to the ghost owl's drum,
Foxes bark as their night-blood hums,
Wild is the darkness that we become,
I am calling to the Wise!

Grandmother, Grandfather, hear my plea,
Step through the bright mist and speak with me,
Bring me the blessings of the things you see,
From your realm beyond the stars.

For that which is lost and that which is found,
That which is rotting in the hallowed ground,
That which whispers yet makes no sound,
I am opening my heart.

By withered apple, by rich black loam,
May you bring me wisdom from your spirit home.

  1. Very cool! Like a mystical incantation. The picture is lovely, too!

  2. Hi Little Gothic Horrors

Thank you. I'm happy you liked it. It's just a little Samhain charm to use to call for help from those on the "other side".

  3. What a wonderful photo Vivienne. I also adore your new header...it is so lovely!

  4. Hi LuLu

Thank you. The photo is mine and the header was done by my sister Elle. She'll be thrilled that you like it.

    Blessings, V.

  5. What an embraceable tapestry of words. Thank you!!
And I have to say I am LOVING your new header! It really fits the vibe of the page to a tee.

p.s. ~ thank you for comment...so glad it was felt deeply. The photo of that feather inspired that poem.

  6. Hi Melissa

Thank you and you are very welcome.
I'll let my sister know that my new header is getting a thumbs up.

    Blessings, V.

  7. Vivienne!! Wow!! Look at that banner! Very nice my friend!!! Love it!!! And, I love these words!! I read it twice!! Blessings my friend ;o)

  8. Vivienne, I LOVE your new header, it's gorgeous!

I ask my ancestors for guidance, too, and I always feel like they are near me, especially my female ancestors.

  9. Hi Magic Love Crow

Thank you. My sis did a wonderful job of capturing the mood of my blog.

So happy you enjoyed the poem.

    Blessings my friend, V.

  10. Hi Victoria

Thank you!!! I feel the ancestors are much easier to "talk" to than the gods. The ancestors are here to look out for us just as we are here to honor and remember them.

    Blessings, V.
