Leaves

Leaves
~Elsie N. Bradly~

How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.

At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow.

edit: I just noticed something in the first picture. For anyone who knows the Elder Futhark Runes, can you see the Gebo Rune in the picture?

  1. Our trees are almost bare already. Sad to see and almost makes me wish for snow to pretty them up a bit. I said almost.

    The poem is beautiful!

  2. We have an even mix of brilliant leaves and bare branches. It is very nice here in VA. Love the poem and that first picture is beautiful.

I'm holdng to that snow comment the first time it comes your way. I'll be thinking of all the fun you could be having if only you liked it. LOL.

  4. Hi wicKED

Good to hear you still have color around your necks of the woods.

Thank you for liking my picture. I loved the way the sun was hitting the little creek that runs through our park.

  5. X....I do! I do! Wow!!! Pretty awesome message this...

While the leaves are fast falling in Southern Wisconsin, we do still have a bit of color to adorn our days...they are predicting rain beginning this evening and then turning into a mix of rain/snow. Soon it will be truly Novemburrrr! :)

I love the photo's you share today my new Sister/Friend!

    Happy Wednesday and Gentle Blessings!

P.S. I adore your Blog Header!!!

  6. I can feel that "feeling" of autumn & the leaves sparse on the trees on that top photo especially. That feeling is from childhood when I lived where the seasons were in full swing. It really takes me back to the sounds of saws buzzing to cut fallen trees for firewood, etc.

Loved the poem ~ It's really quite lovely to give thought & love to those leaves that gave so much in their existence. And even it's brown, crunchy state it gives back to Mother Earth by becoming one with the soil.

  7. Hi AkasaWolfSong

So happy you were able to see Gebo. It was a "gift" to find it.

My sister Elle lives in Wisconsin but she hates the cold and snow. I tease her a lot about that. She designed my header for me so she'll be happy you like it.

I feel blessed to have you visit my blog dear Sister/Friend. Love and Blessings, V.
