Insomnia

First off, I want to thank Stacy from Magic Love Crow for helping me fix my blog so I could actually post something. Big Hugs to you Stacy.

I really wish I could sleep like the girl in the painting above. I suffer from insomnia from time to time but lately it has gotten out of hand. I have tried several things to help me sleep and none seem to be working.

Meditating, wine, beer, Melatonin, Chamomile and regular sleeping pills have all failed. After a few days of no sleep I will finally be exhausted enough to pass out. I know the culprit is my mind. I can't seen to shut it off at night. Too many thoughts running about in there.

Do any of you suffer from insomnia? If so, how do you cope? Any suggestions on what to do to get the rest I need? Your help and comments will be much appreciated on this.

Blessings, V.

  1. Hi V...mnay hugs! I was plagued by this from a child..it took me many years to overcome! Like you..I tried everything. For me..i had to begin to make a conscious effort daily to spend 'mind-Time"..and also release the mind..so anything that exercises the mind and then (expresses it as an outlet)..drawing..doodling..crossword puzzles..reading...painting..anything you feel would be using your mind's energy..it begins to train your brain to focus when you want..and then be able to "let go" when you want to sleep.
Also if you have anyone who could do any form of relaxation technique for you..reiki etc. When this issue comes up for me..I am usualy going through many chnages and shifts..and your energy is aware and restless..let your higher self/spirit or guides know ..they will help adjust your energy! or if you are a sensitive spirit..you may need to get out/let go/release what is expressing on the "inside of you" and give it expression; a way out of your system/mind..so that your body can rest!
It is a complicated issue...and i know in time you will find what works. I had to keep a regular journal and continually let out my thoughts, feelings..draw pictures you name it..to release..then slowly my mind..began to calm...rest and settle down..because i was giving it time to express..
If you are like me and have always had a sensitive brow chakra and crown chakra..you may wish to work with them, give them expression in some way.. and place your hands there and calm and balance the enregy daily. Just some thoughts! Good luck!
Hope you find what works for you!
    hugs and happy sleep!

    1. Hi V~

Many hugs to you too. Thanks so much the suggestions. I will have to try the calming exercises for the brow and crown chakras. I also think keeping a journal might help.

      Thanks again.

      Hugs and Blessings, V.

  2. I have battled with insomnia on and off all my life. Couple of things that helped me are setting up a routine so your body understands it is sleepy time. I would read a book right before bed. It took me years to complete it because I would doze off reading, but it was a stable sleep aid. Milk is also a surefire drink of choice for me to help me sleep as is white noise such as ocean waves, a forest CD soundtrack, or even a fan. Hope you win this battle soon!

    1. Hi wicKED

Tyhank you. I would have to pick a boring book to read because I have been know to stay up all night just to finish a book. I'll have to skip the milk, I can't stand the stuff on its own. I usually like silence but i have noticed just the smallest noises wake me up. i might have to give the white noise think a try.

  3. somebody told me to imagine that I wasn't 'allowed' to sleep - and try as hard as I could to NOT sleep ...sometimes this works for me , sometimes not . Mine gets worse around the Full Moon.
    :)

Hope u get some good ideas !

    1. Hi Magickafoot

You know, I have thought to pay attention to the moon phases. It is the Full Moon now. I'll have to keep track of this. Thanks so much.

    1. Hi Stacy

Thank you again my very special friend. I have always had trouble falling asleep. I wish i was more like you! You will be happy to know that i did sleep last night. i don't know if it was because I was exhausted or if it was sitting outside with my girls under the sun helping them with thier homework. We also took an after dinner walk. I think I will try these things again to see if they help.

Love and Blessings my firend, V.

  5. I've had trouble with insomnia off and on all of my life. This is what finally helped me: I go to bed at the same time every night (as much as possible, anyway) and in the hour before I go to bed I do the same thing every night,
playing the same white noise cd while I get ready for bed. When I'm done, I spray lavender around the bedroom, then, once I'm in bed, it's lights out. If I can't hear the creek that flows below my bedroom window, I leave the white noise cd playing. I do controlled breathing. If I haven't fallen asleep within several minutes, I have a visualization trick that stops my mind from running a thousand miles an hour in every direction: Visualize your hand holding a pen, pencil, brush, whatever you feel most comfortable with, above a blank sheet of white paper. Slowly and carefully, starting with the number 100 and working backwards, draw the numbers on the paper. Write each number on a clean page. I'm usually asleep before I get too far into it, but if I'm not...well, then I just give up and get up. I figure I might as well accomplish something since I can't sleep...

Sending blessings and thoughts for good sleep your way...

    1. Hi Victoria

I will have to try the controlled breathing and the visualization. It's almost like counting sheep but more soothing. I also need to make some Lavender Water to spay around my bed at night. Thanks so much for your help and blessings of good sleep.

  6. With my severe nervous anxiety disorder... I do not sleep much at all ....(after all...I will get enough Sleep when I am Dead... with my health issues...I do not know how many years we have left...) And as for the "racing thoughts" when you lay down to go to sleep ....They keep me lying there still awake hours later.... I normally just keep on going until my body is ready to "shut down" from pure exhaustion.

  7. So sorry to hear about your insomnia--I have suffered from it from time to time, but have finally seem to gotten over it. I still use melatonin and sleeping pills on a regular basis and they work for me. It does make your life miserable though. You have a lovely blog and I have become a follower so that I could pop in from time to time.

    Hope to chat again.
