A Wickedly Bewitching Friday the 13th

Along with 3, 5, and 9, the number 13 is one of my favorite numbers. Notice they are all odd numbers. My thermostat is always set on an odd number. It drives me crazy if I accidently set it on an even number. I know other people who love even numbers but loath odd numbers. I'm sure there are some who couldn't care less about numbers. Everyone has their quirks.

There are many people who fear the number 13, most especially when Friday the 13th rolls around. Not me! Today is like a holiday for me. I look forward to the Friday the 13th like a child does for their Birthday or Christmas.  To me, this day is a lucky one. It is a day to celebrate the odd and macabre. The quirky and the wicked.

There are many reasons that Friday the 13th is considered unlucky. Most have to do with the Bible and the Last Supper. I have also heard that it is connected to the Knights Templar. I think it has been ingrained in Western culture like black cats, ladders and broken mirrors. The more it is taught the more it is believed. Hollywood and their films don't help either. Whatever  the reason, fear of the number 13 is very real to some people. I understand and respect that. I am absolutely terrified of spiders, so I know where they are coming from.

Do you celebrate Friday the 13th as a fun and peculiar holiday? Or are you one who fears and shuns this unluckiest of days to some? What odd things do you fear or dislike?

Have a Wickedly Bewitching Friday the 13th, Viv

  1. My little brother was born this day, his life has not been brilliant, but most of those problems were based in bad choices. 13 doesn't bother me a bit, and like you, I think it has more to do with media than truth.

    1. Hi Sharyn, I have a friend who was born on this day too. There are a lot superstitions that are made worse by the media.

  2. I also look forward to Friday the 13th. I just blogged my thoughts on it. 13 is my favorite number and I too love odd numbers. The 13th is one of the happiest and full of good surprises! There is some inner meaning to me that is deeply ingrained.

I remind women that 13 is a sacred woman's number also; 13 moons in a year, woman have 13 cycles a year, and it goes on, too long for a comment, lol! I love spiders, but avoid snakes except red racers.

Oh, great to "meet" you too on a very special day! What could be better? Hugs, Robin

  3. I don't fear Friday the 13th, although I do have some superstitions...won't walk under a ladder, for example. Not doing much today but nursing a cold.

    1. Hi Mary

I don't think I have ever walked under a ladder. I'm not sure if it because I have avoided it. Who knows, I might be a litter superstitious about that too.

      Hope you feel better soon.

  5. It's a favorite day for me. I love odd-numbered days, because every horrible thing that has ever happened to me has happened on an even-numbered day. But, most of my superstitions are related to my Cherokee and Oglala Sioux roots: If an owl calls your name your death is very close, Ravens can be harbingers of bad luck, etc. My maternal Nonna was Italian and she thought Tuesday the 17th was bad luck!

    Blessings,
