Winter Spirits ~Jack Frost~

Jack Frost
by~ Eric Kincaid

Jack Frost~ Author Unknown

A pretty brook was running at play
With little Jack frost on a cold Winter's day.
It stopped to rest at the foot of a hill
Making a pond all quiet and still.
"Aha!" Said jack Frost, "Now isn't that nice?"
And quickly he turned the water to ice.

To most, Winter begins December 22, but to me it begins as soon as the winds turn cold, blowing snow and ice across the land. I like to go by how the Earth feels, not what a calender says or where the sun is. Just like to me, Spring doesn't start on a certain day, but when my Tulips star to sprout from the cold, hard Earth.

There are many Winter Spirits and Jack Frost is one of them. He blows his icy breath across the barren land, freezing everything in it's path. I love the way his breath glistens when it freezes on windows, like millions of tiny diamonds spread across the glass. Jack might be cold and harsh, but I see the beauty in his frozen lands.

Happy Winter to all, V.

  1. When I was a child we didn't have heating in the bedrooms, so some mornings there used to be frost on the windows. And my mum would say that Jack Frost had been :)

  2. Hi Jae Fae

My windows aren't the greatest so we Jack frost visits quite often in winter if we don't put plastic over them.

Hope all is well with you, V.

  3. The whole idea of Jack Frost emits fond memories of childhood...we didn't have storm windows in most places we lived so when the cold winds blew in and the temps were the same we could be sure to have a beautiful picture painted on our windows by Jack Frost...the used to just mesmerize me...then of course I'd have to write me name in all of that icework, lol!

I quite agree with you as to when the seasons appear to us...I don't follow a calendar either to tell me when a season has or has not arrived.
Mother Earth doesn't use a calendar either. I think we are aligned with her?

Thanks for stopping over MS. VIV!!! :)

    Have a Wonderful Weekend!

  4. What an amazing piece of artwork! I'm like you, I look for nature's voice heralding the changing seasons. When you become dependent on some almanac or weather person to tell you when to expect each new season you miss the subtle changes nature clothes herself in. Tie yourself to the earth's ebb and flow and you'll feel more grounded.

  5. Hi AkasaWolfSong

Writing your name in Jack Frost's artwork is always fun. I don't think we could ever grow too old for that or snow angels.

So ahppy that you follow the seasons the way I do. It feels good to know others alighn with Mother Earth as well.

Hope you have a Wonderful Weekend as well, V.

  7. Love the graphic and the poem. You are right; the earth lets us know when it is changing the seasons. It is blustery cold here today, and Jack was very busy overnight. Everywhere you looked it was frosty white. And now snow is falling. Blessings to you and yours on this wintry day. Yule is coming!!

  9. What a beautiful piece of art and poem! The icicles he's holding are a nice touch. I don't appreciate the cold, but the ice on the windows is pretty! It looks like Jack Frost hit our state last night, but at least we don't have snow!

  11. Vivienne, I feel exactly the same. The Seasons begin when it feels like that particular season to me, not when it says so on the calender.

I love the picture and the poem!

    Blessings, Victoria

  12. Happy Winter to you as well! I feel the same as you in this. I can feel a shift as each season comes & goes, regardless of the date or where the sun may be.
I love the beautiful patterns Jack leaves along my window edges. ^-^ The ice & snow crystals are far more lovely than any diamond.

Thanks for the kind words. ^-^ Britt's feeling better (as am I). I'm glad that your ex took his negativity with him. Bonus! =D

    XOXO

  13. Hi Robin

So happy Jack is paying you a visit. He has left us for the time being. When you said "Yule is coming", it made me think of Game of Thrones and the "Winter is coming" phrase.

Blessings to you and yours, V.

  15. Hi Jutine

It looks as if he getting ready to throw those icicles at the world. This was the only picture I looked at. I think it's one of the best of JAck Frost. I hope you don't get too much snow. My sister Elle lives near you and hates the cold as well.

    Warm Wishes, V.
