The Land of Dreams
"Turn down the noise. reduce the speed. Be like the somnolent bear, or those other animals that slow down and almost die in the cold season. Let it be the way it is. The magic is there in it's power"
~Henry Mitchell~
"The cold was our pride, the snow was our beauty. It fell and fell, lacing day and night in a milky haze making everything quieter as it fell, so that winter seemed to partake of religion in a way no other season did, hushed, solemn."
~Patricia Hampl~
I took this picture the other day when we had a brief, heavy snow fall. The snow flakes were the biggest I have seen in a long time. So big that they covered my phone so I only have one picture out of several that turned out . The rest are foggy.
Walking through the woods on this cold winter day felt as if I had stepped into the Otherworlds, The Land of Dreams. It was so serene, so beautifully quiet. The snow falling from the heavens felt like kisses from the angels. The redness of the berries set against the white and brown landscape remind me that there is life in this cold, barren season. It is the same life that shows in our cheeks as they turn red from the icy air. As I walked in this mystical patch of land I could feel the vibrancy of the earth under my feet. She is just sleeping for now but will awaken when the sun warms the earth once more.
As I look at this picture I will be forever taken to the Land of Dreams. To that land of sacred stillness where I can feel the magic of the Earth all around me.

I'm really missing the cold this winter. Its been exceptionally mild here in the UK, and although that is great for my heating bills, I feel I'm missing out on the joys of winter. So far we've had no snow, or even frost, and I miss the magical silence of a white landscape.
ReplyDeleteNot only do you share a wonderful picture through your phone but with your words as well.
ReplyDeleteWinter is my favorite time of year...I love the starkness of it all...seeing things as if from new eyes.
I love seeing it from your eyes too! :)
Radiant Blessings Sister!

Hello Lady Moss... hope you are well ...no snow here ... but very cold even in my home... Wish you the best
ReplyDelete....the Doctor
Vivienne, I feel the same as you! When I walk in the snow, I feel so at peace! You can hear a pin drop, I love it, when all the land is at rest! In our old house, we had a really bad snow storm, and I walked out in the middle of the night, to the end of our driveway. We lived in a forest and at that moment in time, it's hard to explain what I felt. It was like I was the only person on earth. Not a sound, no where. I had a long talk with mother earth that night. It was so special! I will never forget that night! Blessings my friend ;o)

You put into beautiful poetic words the way I feel about snow. We have not had our first snow here yet this year-I know it's planning to make it's debut when I am ready to get on a plane to Mexico! Happened for the last 2 years-maybe the spell will be broken this year.
ReplyDeleteHow incredibly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese images you bring so vividly to life will haunt me for a very long time.
Here is the Otherworld in all it's glory!
Blessings Y
The quotes are beautiful, but not as beautiful as your description of your walk in the winter woods. You rendered it so vividly I felt like I was right there walking beside you! I love the photo, too.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Victoria
Well that's an awesome photo. Gotta love all this snow!
ReplyDeleteOh, I adore that photo! The red of the berries absolutely pops against the snowy winter starkness. I'm so glad at least one of your photos worked out. What a wonderful memento!!
