A Poison Tree
by: William Blake 1757-1827
I was angry with my friend:
I told my wrath, my wrath did end.
I was angry with my foe:
I told it not, my wrath did grow.
And I watered it in fears,
Night and morning with my tears;
And I sunned it with smiles'
And with soft deceitful wiles.
And it grew both day and night,
Till it bore an apple bright.
And my foe beheld it shine
And he knew that it was mine.
And into my garden stole
When the night had veiled the pole;
In the morning glad I see
My foe outstretched beneath the tree.

I write poetry but i don't like rhyming much. I should look william blake up cus he sounds very good.
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my absolute favourite poems!! I love William Blake!! (Emily Dickinson, too!!!) "The Sick Rose" is my most favourite Blake poem, but "A Poison Tree" is darkly wonderful when you've been wronged and are feeling a little bitter. Haha.
ReplyDeleteomg i just looked the sick rose up. I love it!
ReplyDeleteO Rose, thou art sick!
The invisible worm
That flies in the night,
In the howling storm,
Has found out thy bed
Of crimson joy:
And his dark secret love
Does thy life destroy.
Yeah, it's gorgeous isn't it, The Haunted Rose!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi The Haunted Rose,
ReplyDeleteI think your poetry is very beautiful. I love to write poems as well. They're not the best, but I enjoy them.
William Blake is defintely a poet you should check out.
Hi Little Gothic Horrors,
ReplyDeleteI love 'The Sick Rose' as well. And yes 'The Poison Tree' is wonderful for when you feel wrong. I love using poems in ritual.
Blake, Dickinson, Yeats, I could go on and on about my favorite poets.
