He's Baaack!!!

My little friend is back for a visit. I don't know if he is a ghost, goblin or house spirit(Brownie), but I do know that he is a trickster. Before I got my new washer in which the lid locks when started, he used to open the wash machine lid in the middle of the cycle.  I could stand there and watch the washer and nothing would happen., but if I would go to another part of the house to clean, returning later to check on the laundry, the lid would be wide open, causing me to fall behind in my household chores. That used to drive me crazy. So happy he can't do that anymore.

He has been known to unplug things, turn things on or off and knock things off shelves. I have never had a bad feeling about him, only wanting to slap him upside the head if I could ever get the chance.

Why do I call this 'spirit' a he? First off, I didn't think a woman would mess with my laundry, that screams a mans type of trick. Second, I have seen him once. This one and only time was late at night. My husband was at work, my oldest daughter was at her dads for the weekend and my youngest was in bed with me. I woke up to glance at my alarm, something I do every night (I guess I'm afraid I didn't set the alarm, a little OCD of me). Just as I look at the clock  a car drives by, and there. lit up by the red tail lights, is a man standing beside my bed. Within in seconds I reached over to feel my daughter sleeping beside ,then started to get up to fight what i thought was an intruder. Just like that, he was gone. I let out a sigh of relief and whispered "Oh, it's just you. Don't ever do that again." I sat there, heart still pounding, when I thought to myself that I might have scared him as well. So I apologized for being so angry and asked him not to show himself to my girls, I didn't want him to scare them. He stayed away for awhile after that, coming for a visit every now and then.

I started to decorate for Halloween yesterday and I guess that got my visitor in the mood to be up to his usual tricks. he decide to hide my duct tape. I remember putting it on the kitchen table when I was done using it. My husband remembered seeing it there and my daughter swore up and down that she didn't tough it. I looked all over thinking the pup might have taken it to chew on. When i couldn't find it I figured I must have thrown it away with some trash. I gave up looking, mad that i was going to have to buy more, when I happened to see it on top of my husbands gun cabinet. How it got there I don't know. My daughter can't reach up that high and my husband swears he didn't do it. I know I didn't put it up there and I can tell when my husband is lying. That's when I figured that my 'spirit' friend is back. He's welcome as long as he leaves the girls alone, which thankfully, he always has. My daughter thinks it's the Leprechaun she tried to catch last St. Patricks day with the trap she made for a school project. She thinks he out to get her.

I'm sure all of these happenings can be debunked. Maybe the washer shook to hard, maybe the plugs are loose and lights wired wrong. Maybe it was a waking dream. And maybe my husband has become a better actor. Or maybe I really have a strange visitor. I don't think I'll ever know for sure.

  1. Set up a video camera. I too have had some mischievous events happen around me that I feel are "other worldly". At least it seems friendly.

  2. I think the mystery of not knowing if its real makes it fun so I wouldn't try to capture evidense of something supernatural.

  3. It's really something to watch over time. Generally, a haunting issue is something that time doesn't change. It stays there unchecked. If you get a burst of activity and then quite for a long period and another burst again--that's a pretty good sign that it could be haunted related. If you get verification from others they caught a glimpse of him, I'd call it a haunting. You have a healthy attitude about it. Some homes just come with extra enthusiastic invisible pets who get bored easily. hee hee

  4. Hi wicKED

My luck he'd be a little camara shy like myself. He's welcome to stay as long as he stays friendly. good to know I'm not the only one with guests.

  5. Hi The Haunted Rose

I agree, part of the fun is not knowing. That's why I still believe in magic!

  6. Hi Autumnforest

This spirit seems to come and go. I get the feeling that he visits others for fun. My home is just a stop on his way somewhere else. Kinda like a traveling salesman.

I think it's funny that I was relieved it was a ghost I was seeing. I just told myself, better a ghost than an ax murderer!

  7. I guess the difference between a poltergeist and a leprechaun might be a matter of one's background. Some might consider it lucky to have a leprechaun and a curse to have a poltergeist. I find them both difficult to spell.

  8. Hi Eric

When my girls start talking to a snowy TV I'll worry.

  9. Hi Scared

I find them both hard to spell as well. Spell check helped me with leprechaun. We might have had good luck if her trapped had worked, but drunken fella got away, at least that's what the letter he left said.

  10. Wow...I think that it is definitely an entity! Actually, I really HOPE that it is....because it terrifies me to think of it being an actual man that you saw in the middle of the night, who was not your husband. I found myself thinking that I would have preferred it to me neither, if it were me home alone with my child! I'm such a scardedy-cat and I already have a hard time sleeping....not sure I could handle a ghost, friendly or not! But I will anxiously await news of YOUR ghost when you see him. Thanks for sharing your experiences! :o)

  11. If you stare at it for a minute... then look at a blank section of wall you will see this ghost...

  12. Hi Wendy

I would much rather it be an entity than an actual man. I think ghosts would be easier to fight if need be.

You are right on that. I didn't even realize it when I posted.

  14. Hi Vivienne, you make sure you keep your spirit in line! We had a ghost in our old house, a woman. I use to see her all the time. She would actually tuck us in bed. The sweetest lady. It sounds like you have a good understanding with him, so that's excellent! I wonder what he will do next? ;o) Oh, I stared at the ghost and you can see it on a blank section of a wall! Very cool! Did you do that on purpose? Have a great day ;o)

  15. Hi Magic Love Crow

As long as he stays nice I think all will be well. That's pretty cool that your ghost would tuck you in bed. I did't do the ghost thing on purpose, but it's pretty cool.

    Blessings to you!!!

  16. Vivienne, I read this story with much interest. I don't know how I would feel about having these things going on at home. Especially seeing him in your bedroom. You sound like a brave and intelligent person and are handling this well. Good luck to you! Blessings from Robin. I have signed on to follow, I like your blog, and will be interested to read more of your archives, and please keep us updated on your Brownie.
