I have two little zombies of my own, ages 12 and 7, so I am always on the lookout for zombie and monster themed books for them. I found one that they both enjoyed. My 12 year had fun reading it and my 7 year had fun while I read all 206 pages in one sitting. Boy did I ever feel like a zombie after reading this delightful book of the undead.

This little treasure of a book will have you thinking twice about innocent looking teddy-bears. Written by Kevin Bolger and illustrated by Aaron Blecha, Zombiekins is funny and just a little bit creepy. I'm not sure I can look at elementary aged children the same after reading this book. They're a little scary at times to begin with.

From the back cover:

He's a little bit bunny.
A little bit teddy.
And a whole lotta ZOMBIE!

The little town of Dementedyville is as BORING as they come--but a mysterious stuffed animal is about to liven things up...

Stanely Nudelman buys ZOMBIEKINS at the yard sale of his neighbor, the Widow Imavitch. It LOOKS cuddly and creepy-cute--but expose the TEDDY OF TERROR to moonlight, and STRANGE THINGS happen.

When ZOMBIEKINS gets loose at school, Stanley finds himself in GRAVE danger. Because if his teacher Mr. Baldengrumpy discovers he turned the WHOLE SCHOOL into ZOMBIES, Stanley will be in detention till he's, like, 80!

Can Stanley and his best friend Miranda save their schoolmates from ETERNAL ZOMBIEFICATION? If not, will Mr. Baldengrumpy even notice?

This bunny's got bite.

You gotta love the names that Kevin Bolger comes up with. Dementedyville, Widow Imavitch, Mr. Baldengrumpy and many more haunt the pages of this delightfully dark children's book. You can visit the website for ZOMBIEKINS here. It has a creepy- cute video you can watch so you can get the full effect of the Stump!--scri-i-i-itch sound that Zombiekins makes as he walks. It is just how I imagined it to sound.

Both of my girls give this book  two zombie-thumbs up!!! If you have little zombies of your own they might enjoy this book as well.

Please visit the other zombies on this Zombie Walk!!!

  15. Hi Sean

I will have to check this book out. Thanks for the rec.

  16. I wish I had books like that when I was a kid. I think the only remotely scary one I read was Where the wild things are.

  17. Hi Katy

I can't remember any scary books from when I was a kid. I wish we had a lot of things the kids have now.

  18. "I have two little zombies of my own, ages 12 and 7, so I am always on the lookout for zombie and monster themed books for them."

That cracks me up. "Now kids, make sure you eat your vegetables, drink your milk, and read your zombies." Awesome parent.

  19. Hi Leo Godin

Thanks for the ego boost, I needed that. I'll have to tell my girls someone thinks i'm an awesome parent.
